Summer Retreat. 2-5th August. 2018. Tilton House, East Sussex. UK4 day Retreat - nestled in South Downs, close to Cliff top walks - only 12 places!
Tilton House, East Sussex.
Everyone seemed to love this beautiful, charming venue the last few times, so we are returning again, but for an extra day – as the weekend never felt long enough to explore this beautiful place!
Tilton House is nestled underneath the South Downs and edged by woodland with far reaching views across the Sussex Weald. It sits impressively in the natural landscape. A Georgian country house that was once home to economist John Maynard Keynes and ballerina Lydia Lopokova as their intimate retreat for contemplation and calm.

Firstly I’d like to say a big thank you to James for organizing such a fab retreat! It all whizzed by so quickly but was nevertheless so very enjoyable!
Please book us on the next UK one James!!
Secondly, I’d like to thank everyone for making Will and I feel so very welcome! It was a real pleasure to be in your company and share the lovely memories of the weekend together.
Sending much love to you all!!!

I can only repeat James & Amanda`s words…
Thanks ever so much for the amazing hours under Tilton`s inspiring roof!
Even without any nightly encounters I thoroughly enjoyed our common fight
against the common enemy hamstrings. Resistance is futile, love is everywhere.
Amongst other places also in this email.
See you all again some other time soon,
James, thank you for bringing us all together. Really enjoyed being with everyone and soaking up the yoga and meditation. The lawn yoga was so lovely and what better way to start Relaxation than looking up to a blue sky with softly rolling clouds. 😊
Thank you too for making it fun. no pressure, just exploring …..😉
Love to everyone, hope our paths cross again on another of James’ retreats.

I enjoyed your company very much on our lovely harmonious weekend in Tilton House. James, your teaching is always wonderful and you really found the ideal location in Tilton. And it was so nice to meet your wee family – we’ve heard so much about them ❤️
Hope to see you all again on another JJ retreat soon. James, don’t forget to alert us when next year’s venues go on line. I’m slightly panicking that I don’t have another retreat booked atow!
London is only an hour away and Brighton a 20 min car journey. Glyndebourne is just 10 minutes by car.
The garden has many mature trees, you could sling one of the many hammocks and relax to the sound of birdsong. For the more energetic there is a tennis court hidden behind a row of ash trees. The firepit in a woodland clearing provides the perfect setting for spinning yarns and stargazing as night closes in. It’s known that Lydia Lopokova the Russian Ballerina was inspired to dance on the lawns under the moonlight.

And a state of the art Barrel Sauna room in the garden to sweat in during your free time!!!

For those interested in art, the famous Charleston Farmhouse, home to the Bloomsbury set, shares the same private road, which winds into a network of footpaths that is The South Downs Way.
The workshop area was a study added by Maynard Keynes. It’s a deeply peaceful and atmospheric space with large wall-to-floor arched windows that look south across the downs. Keynes said of the place, “There is no better air than here for work.” Morning and evening meditations will be held here in the tranquil atmosphere of the study. Everyone just loved coming here and being !!!!
Each of the intimate 7 twin bedrooms has plenty of character and all have views over either the Sussex Weald or Downs,
….with individually designed bathrooms per every two or three bedrooms.
The house was completely redecorated in May 2007, and all 7 bedrooms were decorated using natural materials.
Food is of great importance on a retreat. And here we have a local cook, preparing, creative and sumptuous vegetarian dishes.
Depending on the weather, these meals can be eaten outside in a lovely courtyard or in the kitchen dining area.
The yoga practice can be enjoyed outside in the garden if the weather permits, or inside the yurt as below.
There is a smaller study workshop inside where meditations could be held too.

More from 2017 Tilton House Retreat......
James, thanks for the lovely e-mail. Thank YOU for everything, it was wonderful to get a dose of your teaching once again and to be reminded of all those lusciously slow and yet intense movements to warm up the body, I have to take more time to do this on my own also.
It was great to share with all of you the wonderful house, lovely meals and the quiet time in the library. I would have happily continued for a few more days. And yes, what a blessing it was to be able to have two classes outside on the grass.
I wish you all a beautiful remaining summer,
Thanks for sharing the photos, they are great and a perfect memory of the weekend. Thanks for your companionship and friendship over the weekend, that goes for everyone else too, it was so lovely getting to meet you all. I came on the weekend feeling a little apprehensive being that I’d never really done any yoga before but everyone was so friendly and supportive and I will definitely come again in the future.
Lots of love to you all!

A rather belated hello from me and thank you all for the wonderful photos – great memories of a great weekend.
Rhona and I had a wonderful time at Charleston House after we left you – what a fascinating place and so well preserved with lots of personal items from the Bloomsbury set that it was quite spooky but not in a scary way. We definitely felt their spirits, but in a good way.
I hope to see some or all of you again at another of James’s retreats as Amanda said – lots of love and hugs to you all.
Thank you everyone, it was a lovely weekend! I have no doubt that I’ll meet some of you again at another of James’ retreats…I think I’m going to be a life-long follower!
James, I hope you and your lovely family enjoy the rest of your trip in the UK but no doubt you’ll be pleased to get back to the blue sky in Spain, it’s pouring with rain outside as I type this!
See you again soon!
