Almería, Andalucía. 30th June - 6th July 2018.The venue is on the edge of one of Europe's most remote and beautiful natural parks, the Cabo de Gata. An amazing landscape of perfect half-moon bays, hidden coves, volcanic rock formations - a wonderful, wild, unspoilt Spanish coastline.
Andalusia’s first marine-terrestrial protected area. This area is also internationally recognised as a biosphere reserve and was also designated by UNESCO as a Global Geopark.
Almeria is Spain’s sunniest region and one of the least visited. Its proximity to North Africa means that the area is semi-desert, dry and dramatic, with imposing mountains and dazzling sea. You will probably have seen it more times than you think as the backdrop in many films including Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia, and Sergio Leone’s famous spaghetti westerns!
The venue is set back in a peaceful, isolated location surrounded by mountains and extensive gardens (30 acres of organic planting), but within 15 mins walking distance of the lovely, traditional local village of Nijar(above), which can be seen across the valley at the foot of the spectacular mountain backdrop. Transfer is easy, as it is only half an hour from Almeria airport.
For all those who want to venture out from the peaceful finca – Beautiful, wild, coved beaches, within the Unesco protected, Natural Park of “Cabo de Gata”, await you! A mere 30 minutes drive away approximately.
Such as La Playa de Los Muertos, below.
Whether you are a beginner or experienced; this Retreat, limited to a smaller group of 12-15 people maximum, is offered to meet you where you are.
Being away and resting from your normal routine, practicing yogic movement, stillness & contemplation and being more outdoors in nature, may help to give a fresh perspective and awareness on yourself and your life. You may prefer to take the week more as a retreat, with more silence and reflection during the free time. Or simply to just relax, restore and be on holiday!
The venue consists of the main house (Finca) , which won awards in the 80’s for its striking modernist design. It sits in the semi-desert landscape amid lush gardens, its architecture echoing ancient Mediterranean civilizations.
One of It’s striking natural swimming pool is fed by spring water and filtered by reed beds.
It has long been a stylish, bohemian family home, also an exotic venue for photo shoots. It has now been adapted and managed for yoga groups by Hazur Vadisi, the same lovely people/company behind Suleyman’s Garden in Turkey. So it benefits from their many years of experience and high standards in the yoga retreat world.
The original Bohemian house has all sorts of attractive features, such as this long, antique filled entrance hallway, which leads to large, ensuite bedrooms and a beautiful expansive, study lounge, dining room. But also there are other original farm buildings, converted into bedrooms within the extensive grounds too; as well as new purpose-built chalet rooms. Truly spoilt for choice regarding accommodation!! Keep scrolling down to see more.
Late June – early July can be a perfect time of the year to fully enjoy the retreat and its surrounding area, with typical sunny daytime temperatures up to early 30’s degrees.

What people say....
James, thanks for the lovely e-mail. Thank YOU for everything, it was wonderful to get a dose of your teaching once again and to be reminded of all those lusciously slow and yet intense movements to warm up the body, I have to take more time to do this on my own also.
“Wow , what a great week we have all had . My first retreat and certainly not my last .
It’s been such a positive experience for me , I feel completely rested and recharged.
Not sure if that was down to the G&T or yoga & meditation or maybe both !
I’m planning on trying to practise meditation , I know it’s not going to happen over night but for now I will persevere .
Lots of love , peace and hugs “

“Thanks so much for the wonderful week at ‘Garden of Eden’. It was such a special place with a truly gorgeous garden; lush, verdant, bountiful and spiritually uplifting. We both loved it.
. Please can you put our names down for 2018?!
Thank you also for the great yoga classes and for all your help and encouragement in assisting us to make the most of what we have, and to better understand that we can indeed improve our health and wellbeing.
All the very best for the future – until the next retreat.”

Beautiful, lush, organic gardens to walk around and sit in.
There are two pools at Almeria, one at the main house (Finca) and one in the Farmhouse/Cortijo area. Both are ‘eco-pools’ – the house pool water is continually filtered through reed and water-plant beds, and is crystal clear.
The pool at the Cortijos is part of the large garden irrigation system, so it is constructed as a ‘proper pool’ but water flows continuously in and out to irrigate the grounds. Both pools are minimally treated to ensure cleanliness without harming the delicate eco-system. It makes for a lovely, natural swimming experience.
An entrance to one of the converted farm buildings, just a few minutes walk from the main house.
Impressive, landscaped, curved stairs leading down into the main house.
Spacious, airy, double and twin rooms, ensuite, in the main house. Air conditioned if needed.
A well equipped, purpose buit, covered Yoga Shala leading to natural pool behind. Lots of shade and fresh air to flow through.
Some purpose built self contained, apartments, next to the Cortijo buidings are also on offer. All with own entrances, sitting room/kitchens and ensuite bedrooms.
Delicious food to be enjoyed outside on a terrace, surrounded by trees and plants.
Meals are vegetarian by default, served buffet style with fresh local produce, and include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The meals are healthy and varied, with plenty of choice. If requested two meals during the week with fish.
Dinner outside too, but with an alternative indoor dining room as well!
A large library/lounge to sit in and enjoy.
Delightfully planted areas everywhere, all irrigated from the pool behind.
For those not wanting to rent a car, transport will be arranged on the free day to take you to a quiet, more secluded bay (with parasols and picnic) to enjoy the sea of the natural park at it’s best. Over the week, other areas of interest will also be recommended , like nearby natural springs.

Flight and Transfer Information
Almeria airport is 30 minute drive from the Finca and is served by Easyjet and Ryanair.
Malaga Airport 2.5 hrs drive.
Transfers can be arranged from Almeria aiport, which typically work out between €30 and €50 per person to include both ways, depending on the number of passengers and number of transfers required to meet flights. We average the cost so everyone pays the same. The driver waits outside the exit (the airport is tiny) with a Huzur Vadisi Logo sign.
It works best and keeps costs down if people can join an existing flight. Please consult your teacher or group organiser. Car hire, if required, is only available from the airport – Great for exploring Cabo de Gata at your leisure!
Check in time
If possible afternoon arrivals, as this gives us chance to clean and prepare the communal spaces and your rooms following the departure of the previous group. However if this is not possible, you are welcome to arrive earlier and relax by the pool while waiting for the housekeeping jobs to be completed. Occasionally for logistical reasons, for large groups arriving early, we may request the transfer bus to wait with you in nearby Nijar at no extra cost to your transfer (keeping your luggage on board) where you can buy lunch in the picturesque Bar Glorieta on the square by the church, before bringing you on to the retreat in the early afternoon when we are ready to receive you. We will let you know in advance if this is the case with your arrival.
The nearest airport is Almeria, 30 min drive to centre.
Malaga, 2.5 hr drive to centre.
“Thank you all. And especially James for a wonderful week. Your style of yoga goes not just into the body but helps the healing of the heart and soul/mind. “
“… It was a beautiful experience and such a tonic. When I think back I remember that there was a moment every day when i thought ‘this is heavenly’.
Rhona x Scotland
“I just wanted to say a very big thank you for the amazing week. It really did exceed all expectations.
I absolutely loved all the yoga and was still feeling Zen like at boxing with Rhona on Weds night!
My best wishes,”
